Dear friends,
Some people here were saying: " realizing a new kitchen at this time of the year....no way and good luck, you must be a Dutchman to do this! And this is Africa etc etc)"
 |
But..The new kitchen is up and running! We managed to got everything done the Friday before Christmas! A big 'thank you' to all the kids from my nephew's school in Holland, who raised with the sponsor run most of the money for this project! |
A big 'thank you' to tho se who have donated the last required money! It was really amazing to see how everyone worked together and put everything in it to make it happen!
Thank you to The people from PKS(Gustav, Johan and Lee Ann) for supplying and installing all the kitchen equipment. Johan who have been working three days till late in the evening to get everything done, amazing!
Thank you to John Dunn for putting in all the electricity(in the most terrible ways: over the ceiling, behind walls etc)
I really want to say thank you in particular to Joe, Carlos and Oscar from JCA Buildings. It is due to them that I got used to the saying: 'we'll make a plan' and absolutely they did, for everything! |

So the 24th in the morning, Abby(a volunteer from the US) and I started cooking in the new fab kitchen. For both Christmas and boxing, day a big breakfast, a nice braai and a three cours dinner. We got on the 23rd from two families two donations 'please use this money for the Christmas dinner'.
After 36hours cooking with 4 hours sleep, I'm a little bit tired at the moment but satisfied!
Besides all this 'kitchen news' there was at the same time the terrible accident with Benjamin. For me it was a very mixed feeling: on the one hand everyone was busy to achieve the goal: "a nice Christmas dinner for all the kids and volunteers at TLC, prepared in the new kitchen" and on the other hand you see what life is about!
This is a good example of what TLC is about: happinez and sadness following eachother rapidly, sometimes in within a week sometimes a day sometimes in an hour. When Benjamin in got into the hospital we immediately start raising money to get the hospital bills paid. And it was thrilling to experience how many people reached their hands to help us here! People from overseas, local friends and everyone who was involved in the kitchen project!
Thank you all so much!
